Terminal and agent platform

October vs Warp

Keep your terminal workflow. Connect the people and agents around it.

Checked · 3 official sources · Read the sources

Warp now spans more than an AI-assisted terminal. Its current site presents software Factories for orchestrating development, while its terminal provides separate command and agent-conversation modes. October brings independent agents and teammates into a shared canvas, with Runs for planned coordination. Warp is relevant if you want terminal interaction or development automation defined around a factory configuration. October is relevant if you want people to supervise varied tools and agent sessions together in a visual workspace. Match the comparison to the Warp product you actually intend to use.

Choose October if

  • You want a shared visual space for agents, people, apps, and previews.
  • You want to keep existing agent tools and connect their sessions.
  • You want an approved Run plan and visible handoffs in the wider workspace.

Choose Warp if

  • You want shell commands and agent conversations in a terminal-oriented interface.
  • You want to evaluate a software-factory workflow defined in repository configuration.
  • You want Warp’s documented model, harness, infrastructure, and evaluation choices.

Compare Terminal and Factories deliberately

A decision about a terminal is different from a decision about a software factory. For terminal work, evaluate command entry, agent conversations, navigation, and how you inspect results. For Factories, evaluate the configuration, triggers, environments, and review process for a repeatable development workflow. October’s comparison point is the shared workspace and its coordinated Runs. Keep those scopes explicit so you do not select a product for a feature that belongs to another edition or access program.

Choose a workflow you can measure

A useful test is a small repository task with a known outcome: a dependency update, a reproducible bug, or a focused review. In October, inspect the proposed team and follow the work through the shared workspace. In a Warp automation evaluation, inspect the factory definition and the checks used to judge its result. For either approach, consider the changes produced, how feedback returns to the agent, and the human effort needed to validate the outcome. A polished launch demo is not your acceptance test.

A few practical questions.

Is Warp only a terminal?

No. Its current website describes Terminal, an Agent CLI, and software Factories. This page distinguishes those surfaces instead of assuming the product still has the scope of an older terminal-only comparison.

Are Warp Factories available to every terminal user?

The current Warp homepage uses a request-access action for Factories. Check access and deployment requirements with Warp before depending on a specific factory capability. A terminal download and admission to a separate product are different things.

Can October use the agents I already run?

Yes. October’s workspace is designed around supported existing agent tools and their accounts. The practical choice is whether your work is best organized through a shared visual workspace, a terminal, or a separately configured automation platform.
