# October vs Conductor

Compare shared canvases with task workspaces, cloud, and multiplayer.

Checked 2026-10-29.

Conductor and October both organize coding-agent work, and both now describe collaboration and cloud execution. Conductor centers each task on an isolated workspace with a branch, terminal, diff, and review path. October uses a shared canvas that holds agents, apps, browsers, and teammates, with Kanban and code views alongside it. The choice is therefore not cloud versus local or team versus solo. It is how you want to organize the development operation and how the relevant people inspect and steer it.

## Choose October if
- You want a spatial workspace containing agents, apps, previews, and teammates.
- You want connected sessions to exchange work through Agent Intercom.
- You want to follow tasks through canvas, Kanban, and code views.

## Choose Conductor if
- You want each coding task organized around its workspace, branch, and review path.
- You want Conductor’s managed cloud execution and its documented setup flow.
- You want to collaborate through Conductor Multiplayer and shared workspaces.

## Side by side

| What matters | October | Conductor |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Main organizing unit | A shared canvas, with Kanban and code views. | A task workspace with its own branch, files, terminal, diff, and review. ([source](https://www.conductor.build/docs)) |
| Coding agents | Bring different supported tools and their existing accounts. | Run Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode in parallel. ([source](https://www.conductor.build/docs)) |
| Collaboration | Teammates can join and work in the same canvas with permission. | Multiplayer lets teammates share workspaces and prompt agents together. ([source](https://www.conductor.build/)) |
| Cloud execution | Use local and cloud agents; check plan and service requirements. | Cloud workspaces keep agent execution off your local Mac. ([source](https://www.conductor.build/docs/cloud/faq)) |
| Account choice | Existing harness subscriptions and accounts remain separate. | Cloud and local work can use provider subscriptions or API keys. ([source](https://www.conductor.build/docs/cloud/faq)) |
| Review loop | Inspect agent sessions, previews, handoffs, and results together. | Review a diff, open a pull request, merge, and archive the workspace. ([source](https://www.conductor.build/docs)) |

## Multiplayer is an overlap, not a missing feature

Conductor’s current site and Cloud FAQ describe live collaboration. A fair evaluation should give it the same kind of team trial you give October: invite a teammate, inspect an active task, and make a change together. In Conductor, follow the shared workspace and agent workflow. In October, arrange the relevant sessions and apps on the canvas. Notice where each person finds the current state and whether feedback lands with the right agent. Both are legitimate collaboration approaches.

## Decide how much of your work is repository-shaped

Conductor’s documented loop moves from a task workspace through a diff and pull request to merge and archive. That is an appealing shape for shipping changes. October’s canvas also accommodates a broader surrounding operation: multiple tools, live apps, browser work, and connected sessions. If most of your decisions happen at the diff, test Conductor’s path carefully. If the coordination spans more surfaces and people, test October with that whole context instead of a coding-only example.

## Questions

### Does Conductor support teams?

Yes. Its current product page describes Multiplayer, and its Cloud FAQ explains shared workspaces and team collaboration. Availability and administrative controls depend on the plan. Older descriptions of Conductor as exclusively a solo tool do not describe its current offering.

### Will Conductor cloud work continue when my Mac is closed?

Its Cloud documentation says cloud sessions run remotely and can continue when the app is closed, while local sessions depend on the Mac. Check your selected environment and plan before leaving a task unattended; local and cloud are separate execution choices.

### Why choose October if Conductor has cloud and multiplayer?

Choose according to the working surface and coordination you prefer. October emphasizes a shared canvas for people, apps, and independent agent sessions, with Agent Intercom and Runs. Conductor emphasizes task workspaces and the coding review path. A real team task is a better test than a feature checklist alone.
