# October vs Claude Cowork

Coordinate your chosen agent tools and teammates alongside Claude’s task workspace.

Checked 2026-11-02.

October is a shared workspace around the agents, applications and people involved in a project. Claude Cowork handles work across files, connected services and a browser, with its capabilities increasingly available through Claude chat. Current architecture documentation makes cloud sessions the default, while retaining legacy local desktop sessions. It can schedule work and divide tasks among subagents; it is not limited to one local desktop conversation. October provides a shared canvas around independent coding tools, running applications and human collaborators. Cowork organizes the task inside Claude. If you already use Claude Code, October can also sit around that coding session; using the workspace does not require replacing Claude with a different model.

## Choose October if
- You want independently chosen coding tools and human teammates on a shared canvas.
- You want connected sessions to exchange questions and results through Agent Intercom.
- You want to inspect live apps and agent work together, with canvas, Kanban and code views.

## Choose Claude Cowork if
- You want Claude to carry a file, browser or connected-tool task through to an output.
- You want scheduled tasks and subagent work within the Claude experience.
- You prefer continuing Claude work across its supported devices and services.

## What changes in the day-to-day workflow

October provides a shared canvas around independent coding tools, running applications and human collaborators. Cowork organizes the task inside Claude. If you already use Claude Code, October can also sit around that coding session; using the workspace does not require replacing Claude with a different model.

## Compare the team around the task

A document task and a software project can both involve several agents, but they create different review needs. Cowork can divide work and return an output through Claude. October keeps independently chosen coding tools, the running application and the people reviewing it in one workspace. Start with the thing you need to inspect, then choose how much surrounding coordination it needs.

## Questions

### Why use October if I already use Claude Cowork?

October brings independently chosen coding tools, live applications and collaborators together. Use it when your task needs a shared project workspace around the assistant’s output.

### Can I use Claude and other harnesses together in October?

Yes. October supports Claude Code alongside other coding harnesses. Their sessions can coordinate through Agent Intercom; each tool retains its own account and permission requirements.

### What should I try first in October?

Use supported agents for implementation and review, with the actual application beside them. Check whether the shared context makes the handoff clearer.
