# October vs Claude App

Bring Claude into a workspace for your whole agent team.

Checked 2026-10-29.

Claude’s desktop app brings together conversations, Cowork capabilities, and a Code tab powered by Claude Code. Its current coding documentation includes parallel sessions, diffs, a browser, files, and local, cloud, or SSH environments. October organizes existing agent tools and teammates on a shared canvas, with Kanban and code views. Claude App is a strong choice for an integrated Anthropic workflow that spans coding and other tasks. October is a strong choice when the coordination needs to include independent tools, accounts, applications, and people.

## Choose October if
- You want a workspace around different coding-agent harnesses and accounts.
- You want teammates, app previews, and connected sessions on a shared canvas.
- You want to coordinate handoffs and review across tools with Agent Intercom and Runs.

## Choose Claude App if
- You want Claude conversations, Cowork tasks, and coding in one desktop app.
- You want the Code tab’s integrated session, diff, browser, and terminal panes.
- You want Claude’s own connectors, permissions, and task workflow.

| Main surface | A shared canvas with Kanban and code views. | Claude desktop, including chat, Cowork, and the Code tab. ([source](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop)) |
| Coding engine | Run supported independent agents, including Claude Code. | The Code tab runs Claude Code without a separate CLI installation. ([source](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/overview)) |
| Parallel sessions | Coordinate different agent sessions and teammates in one workspace. | Run several independent Code sessions from the sidebar. ([source](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop)) |
| Verification | Keep previews and real tools beside the sessions doing the work. | Arrange browser, diff, terminal, editor, and other supported panes. ([source](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop)) |
| Execution location | Use local and cloud agent options with the relevant setup and plan. | Code sessions can run locally, in the cloud, or over SSH. ([source](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop)) |

## Claude already has a substantial workspace

It would be misleading to compare October with a desktop app that only has a text box. Claude’s current Code documentation describes a multi-pane environment with parallel sessions and different execution locations. Cowork adds broader file-and-tool tasks. October’s case is the shared organization of independent agents and people, not the absence of capable tools in Claude. Try the current app with the same implementation and review task you give October, and inspect how each keeps the complete situation understandable.

## Choose the boundary of your workspace

If you want most of your work to stay within Claude’s integrated experience, its app offers a coherent place to begin. If your team uses several agent tools and wants those sessions beside apps, browser previews, and other people, October offers a different boundary for the workspace. You can keep using Claude Code underneath it. The practical question is where you want to coordinate the task and gather feedback; it is separate from whether Claude is a good agent for the implementation itself.

## Questions

### Is Claude App different from Claude Code?

Claude Code is the coding agent and is available through several surfaces. Claude App includes a Code tab powered by Claude Code, alongside other Claude experiences. This page covers the integrated desktop workspace; the Claude Code comparison focuses on the agent relationship and terminal workflow.

### Can Claude App run several coding tasks?

Yes. The current Code tab documentation describes independent sessions that can run in parallel, with their own project folders and chat histories. October also manages several sessions, with an emphasis on independent harnesses, a shared canvas, and teammate participation.

### Can I use Claude Code and October together?

Yes. October supports Claude Code as an agent tool. You retain its account and provider terms. Evaluate which desktop experience you want for supervision and collaboration, and check each product’s current plan requirements before depending on a particular paid feature.
